Gateway Timeout (Joomla check for extension updates) – Joomla! Forum

I’m aware the Time-out problem is probably not the hosting but a problem with an update server of a third party extension; the issue I have is identifying which is the problem and causing the errors, short of disabling all, and re-running the update check on each one at a time. I have tried the ‘rebuilt update site list’ etc, but the problem returns.

My host is Siteground, the problem affects two sites.

I don’t know if this question belongs in “Extensions” forum or not, so asking under General Questions.

Is there particular system logs I should be looking at on the server? (either hosting log or joomla error log?)

When my sites are checking for updates I often get either/and “Unknown Extensions” being shown from the ‘quick icons’ on the global config/control panel page or server Gateway Timeout errors.

I’m not sure if your issue is related but there is an issue with Joomla 3.9.23 regarding getting time outs during unzipping extensions (when installing or updating).
